July 2021

Abercrombie's Glen is the  name I have picked. This is where Abercrombie sits and waits for Autumn.  Then he goes out front.  While he is waiting for Fall to arrive he is helping me get this rain garden going.  I have dug out my bowl/basin and just observing the water and conditions before I put everything into the works.  I am going to move some existing plants along with some new ones.  I haven't pick them all out yet.

Garden Journal   2020

I need a name for my garden... I will give it some thought. This garden nestles its lonesome self under the lilac trees hidden from site on the North West boarder of our Pie. I am ready to start the transformation of this little Hollow, into the Rain Garden of the Year....

But first the Milk Jug planters... Zoom Webinars, Online Tutorials, Research and Designing the space.  All the elements of joy for me... I am off and Abercrombie is going to help with the design.

Garden Journal Musing For October 2020

      OVER THE YEARS

Over the past 25 years I have almost worked my way through our entire property, changing and adding many garden beds. I am going to add one last garden.  It is going to be another rain garden. Back in the West corner of our piece of pie.  The gardens have expanded and evolved, with many plants being moved or even removed.  All I need now is a focal point for the front garden.

I am starting a Medina Soil and Water Conservation District Rain Garden Class in November.  I have taken lots of before pictures and I have been doing the On-line tutorials.  This is an estimate a 6-week class.  Lots of information and fun ideas to try.

       NEVER FEAR

I love plants.  I like to memorize them, name them as I take a walk. I enjoy the research, looking up new flowers, bushes and anything that catches my eye. However, when I go to the garden center and come home with yet another plant, I usually don’t have the room for it, so I have to move it into another section or garden.

I have moved my Mrs. Lincoln roses 5 times over the years and they are still doing good.  So, do not be afraid to dig up and move your plants if they need more sun, or need less.  My friend Helga just gave me a huge bunch of Irises that needed divided. We had fun digging them out so she can put something new in that spot.  It was also a great way to catch up on our friendship. So, call up a friend and pass on a plant.

      WINDOW WATCHING

On summer mornings I love to go out and have breakfast on the south terrace. I listen and watch the birds start their mornings. Watching them flit around searching for those yummy bugs and teaching their young ones the moves.  This summer we had a lot of new baby birds hatching.  I counted four robin nests in our yard this last summer, along with lots of Red-bellied Woodpeckers, wrens, sparrows, finches, Cardinals and finally the Humming birds flew in.   The year before we had lots of Blue Jays and Crows. As the warm days of summer slide into autumn and I am inside more, I find that I miss the chatter and company of those birds.

I want to enjoy watching the birds even though I am inside more often. My husband put bird feeders and suet cake feeders on shepherds hooks for them. They are located by a window on each side of the house.  So now we are able to see our feathered friends even in the winter. I will be able to check on their H20 as well, so they have fresh and unfrozen water in the winter.
